Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Postdoctoral Research Fellow will carry out epidemiologic and mixed-methods research focused on quantitative and mixed-methods research addressing sexual and reproductive health inequities among marginalized women and migrant communities. The candidate will conduct data analyses, lead and contribute to scholarly writing for peer-reviewed publications, coordinate project milestones, contribute to annual grant reports, mentor trainees, and conduct research with members of an interdisciplinary team. The candidate must have excellent skills interpersonally, in writing, in quantitative data analysis, strong time management and organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize deadlines and work both independently and as a member of the research team. The candidate will also assist with mentoring trainees on the research team (e.g., Research Assistants).
The candidate will have opportunities to contribute to the following projects:

An Evaluation of Sex Workers’ Health Access (AESHA)
An ongoing NIDA-funded community-based cohort study examining the impacts of structural interventions (e.g., community empowerment, policing) on sexual and reproductive health, HIV and substance use outcomes among women sex workers in Vancouver, Canada. AESHA is the longest-standing and largest cohort of sex workers in North America, in operation since 2010. The Fellow will have opportunities to conduct and collaborate on quantitative analyses, publications, and knowledge translation activities utilizing >14 years’ of detailed cohort data, which include clinical, survey, geospatial, and linked administrative data to evaluate impacts of structural interventions on HIV/STI and sexual health outcomes and access to care.

‘Mamá Empoderada’ (‘Mom Power’)
The overall aim of this NIMH-funded R34 study is to adapt and pilot-test a novel mental health prevention intervention for migrant mothers with young children in a humanitarian setting. To address the need for feasible, scalable, and tailored mental health prevention for migrant mothers, this project involves pilot-testing a theory-based, trauma-informed group intervention to promote mental health and positive parenting outcomes among mothers with young children (0-5 years) with migrant mothers with young children. This is a community-based study conducted in close partnership with Al Otro Lado and Centro 32 in Tijuana, Mexico. The Fellow will have opportunities to support clinical trial oversight, data collection and management, and to lead and co-author manuscripts summarizing both qualitative and quantitative findings.

Maternal and Infant Health among Refugee and Asylum-Seeking Women (MIHRA)
This community-based, mixed-methods project aims to evaluate how the local ‘risk environment’ faced by asylum-seeking pregnant and postpartum women shapes sexual and reproductive health, HIV, and TB risk, prevention, and care in the San Diego-Tijuana border region. The Fellow will support oversight of qualitative and quantitative data collection milestones, advance epidemiologic and/or mixed-methods data analyses and publications, support new funding proposals, participate in community engagement, and support translation of findings with diverse stakeholders.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position. The duration of the fellowship is one year. This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
