Postdoctoral Fellow

Description

The Epidemiology Branch within NICHD’s Division of Population Health Research is recruiting outstanding postdoctoral fellows to join a multidisciplinary team whose mission is to conduct original research focusing on human reproduction, pregnancy, and maternal and child health. (http://www.nichd.nih.gov/about/org/diphr/eb/Pages/default.aspx)
Candidates will train for a career in epidemiologic research under the mentorship of Dr. Katherine Grantz or Dr. Edwina Yeung. Fellows will develop their own projects within the scope of ongoing research led by their mentor using population-based datasets to study topics in fetal growth & development, and developmental origins of health & disease.

The primary role of the candidate will be to learn from and support the research of the principal investigator. In addition to conducting independent research and publishing in peer-reviewed journals, the fellow will present their research at national scientific meetings, pursue funding opportunities, and contribute to mentoring postbaccalaureate fellows, as available.

The successful candidate should have:
1. A Ph.D., Sc.D., MD/MPH, or equivalent degree in epidemiology or a closely related field with advanced graduate training in epidemiology or biostatistics earned within the last five years. Candidates who are close to completing their graduate degree (“ABD”) are highly encouraged to apply.
2. Experience using a statistical package such as SAS or R to prepare and analyze large datasets.
3. Creative and disciplined scientific thinking, with the ability to identify and address important gaps in knowledge, thrive in a setting with diverse backgrounds, and have excellent time management and communication skills.

Desirable traits include:
Demonstrated research interests in areas currently under investigation and experience with longitudinal data analysis.

Stipend and benefits:
The NIH/NICHD offers highly competitive stipends, health insurance, and other benefits to postdoctoral trainees (https://www.training.nih.gov/postdoctoral_irta_stipend_ranges).
